Hella Crazy 19th Century Albino Hair Styles

People born with the genetic condition albinism i.e. a deficiency of the skin, hair and eye pigment melanin, have been the subjects of public curiosity over the centuries. They have been purported to have all sorts of supernatural powers such as mind reading and they were at times even suspected of witchcraft. I personally think if they were somehow mind readers they would be able to tap into what others think of their fucked up hair. Here are some early images circa 1870-90's documenting albinos of the day. (I must clarify the above image may have been taking during the 1880's and as we all know in the 80's this hairstyle was considered cool)

The Lucasies family were from Holland and employed by Phineas Barnum during a visit to Amsterdam in 1857. He brought them back to America where they became one of his most popular exhibits. Barnum billed them as being of black Madagascan lineage and that their pink eyes stayed wide open while they slept! Ok, I imagine the Lucasies had to maintain crazy hair for work, their hair is understandable. The fact that they are all wearing dresses a little less understandable but hey who am I to judge.

This is a man, why is he wearing a bib?

The first documented albino mullet - business in the front and waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much party in the back. Once again- possibly a style accepptable in the 80's.

This is just gross. For more amazing and curious hair choices click here to read about other albinos featured in the blog click here.
