Mustache Chic

With troubling times come troubling trends. The house foreclosure trend or the unemployment rate you say. Yes, but none so troubling as "the Mustache trend". A statement you can make on your very FACE! And supported here by these mustache related objects: observe at your own risk.

How about mustache inspired plush toy weapons? Although, why you would ever need to arm yourself beyond just having a mustache I don't know.

A mustache inspired vessel to keep all your mustache trimming equipment in. Wait, I am starting to seriously creep my self out. Must, push, mustache hygiene thoughts, out of head......

Needful Things

Stuff like this is a source of endless amusement. I want the "come in/go away" door mat. The same doormat I'm sure that they have in front of the illuminati head quarters. I also want the unfortunately metric "Who are you taller than" mirror and for some unexplainable reason the "Cat Plane". All of these objects of desire can be found here

"I Can Read Movies" series

Ok, so if you read Entertainment Weekly then you may have seen this item as well. But it's still amazing and gets high marks for:

1. Being Smarmy
2. Simple, elegant design
3. Being Clever

My favorite is the Highlander cover. Check out the entire series here. And as far as lifting content from Entertainment Weekly...... I direct you to this.

Uhhhhhhh

ArtbyMarilyn has a certain- outsider appeal to it to say the least. This Jesus and 9/11 print of an original oil painting offers these thoughts on America's darkest day in recent history. While you might be thinking- I don't really remember the rainbow, Marilyn offers her insight behind the art.
"In 2001 I painted the Twin Towers at the urging of my childhood friend, Terry Pergande. He said I should do something for the world during this difficult time.

I decided to paint New York’s Twin Towers with Jesus looking down on them to combine the tragedy with spirituality. I didn’t fell the painting was completed until I added something to symbolize hope - so I added the rainbow.

Thank you for stopping by Art By Marilyn.

Have a beautiful day."

Marilyn also offers her thoughts on Clowns- and she actually almost gets it right with the "horrific time in my life" part. Unfortunately not making the clown/horrific connection. Sad. She also tends to share too much. Oh, well it's her therapy, not mine.
"Ironically I painted this clown during a very horrific time in my life. I was going through a bad divorce after years of abuse, my stepson was taken away by his real mother, and then I had a miscarriage. Once again I turned to painting as a form of therapy to help me survive those trying times.

I remembered sitting with my mom and dad watching Red Skelton on TV. We would all laugh as he performed these crazy skits during his shows. Skelton wasn’t always the happy comic we saw on TV. He had a very difficult life but he found solace by painting clowns. So I decided to do the same. I started out painting just an everyday clown but in the end I could see in it Red Skelton’s face.

This bittersweet painting reminds us all that even clowns are sad sometimes."

Fun with Fonts

Run don't walk your fingers over to the word art generator. Try out all the fun fonts and see what you can do with them. Sometimes a little hard to read but really you can kill at least 10 minutes here.

Yup, I do that

The Devil and James Brown

In case you missed this mini movie by BMW a few years back here it is. Starring James Brown as himself, Gary Oldman as the devil, Clive Owen as the driver and directed by Tony Scott. It's so good you almost forget it's trying to sell you something. My favorite part is that at times James needs subtitles. Classic.

Vinyl Record Pendants and stuff

Ever wonder what happened to that "Air Supply" album that you DID NOT have in the 80's no matter what anyone says. Well, thankfully it has been turned into some of these items by WrecordsByMonkey’s in their Heritage Collection. Check out the limited edition very expensive red and white lumberjack cuff it's almost as priceless as this.

Green and Gorgeous

I love the earth, you love the earth. But really, I love the earth a little more when super cool designed "green" items look so good. Transglass vases give new life to recycled wine bottles. With an elegant angular top and smooth curves, this bottle combines beautiful design with environmentalism. The vases are available in polished or sandblasted satin finishes, and colors vary according with current recycled batches.

NO WE CAN'T

I understand all the hope and excitement that this new administration is ushering in but this is unacceptable! Mostly naked, body painted performers from Greece is the new Rushmore? No, no and no. This is all a rather slippery slope and before we know it we end up with someone sitting in an invisible chair or making a calendar. I understand the gesture but as my mother used to say. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

Modern House Numbers

Looky! Cool house numbers. No need to be stuck with what you get at Lowes when with a little internet know how you can find these modern offerings. Our first image comes from Unica Home where for $20 a number you can purchase these Plane Numerals- delve deeper and get a lighted back panel for them as well.

The next two images are solar LED numbers which will illuminate 8-10 hours after a sunny day. Wait I love solar stuff- it's like the future has arrived and takes pay pal.

Want to impress all your architect friends why don't you get some of these original Eichler address numbers. Based on rubbings from original Eichler home numbers it's almost like owning a little bit of history.

And lastly these offerings from Design (out of) Reach are interesting with how they they sit up off your house. Based on the iconic lettering that midcentury architect Richard Neutra specified for use on his buildings in the 1930's - 1950's they are as timeless as they are beautiful.

Another Reason to Love Etsy

Artist Lauren Haupt is going into my "favorites" at Etsy- not only do I heart her jewelry but I heart her blogspot. Check out these beautiful pieces above. Her strong sense of composition, simple designs and fantastic prices left me with little choice but to buy one of the pieces (and possibly another one- if I can't stop thinking about it). My piece is featured above, guess which one I got!

Francesca Berrini

Every so often you come across people whose work is so amazingly smart and smarmy that you are left angry at yourself for not coming up with it first. Why Francesca do you have to have your finger on the pulse of my Jesus/sea creature fascination? How is it possible that you could have recreated the "holiday giving of the meats" down to the last detail? Were you there?
Francesca's beautiful one of a kind collages are all hand cut from vintage sources. Get one for yourself here.
